Latest addition, while running in a shallow airboat channel between Buckhead Ridge and Tin House Cove I found I could surface drive my longtail and still maintain 12 mph or so. The water was 6" deep, but the bottom was 3 " of mud over rock. It was hard to keep the surface drive effect, when it dropped down - BANG!!

That trip cost me a trip to the prop shop. This rig needed power trim. So I went home and made one. I used an electric trim cylinder, it doesn't attach to the motor - it only lifts it. I was afraid if I attached it to the motor it would self-destruct when you hit something. Yes, that's a crutch tip on top to cushion it. Put the switch on the handle!

Have 2 days of running time on this. Works like a charm! Wonder how I ever lived without it!

Yes, Diesel loves our new ride! I can judge my speed by how much the wind lifts his ears.

Very cool. How much difference in speed did you get with the longtail with it on top versus the running depth.

Very cool !!!! YOu will find that that mud is muck and it's thicker than thick right now. Talked to a buddy that was able to hit it yesterday and he found it to be a little deeper about 8 inches and 6 inches of much. This leads me to believe that the muck may be rising with the increasing heat.... Time to start watching out for those muck islands as we call em.

Really good application, Baydog. When I run my 9x7 prop on my 27 MB longtail half out of the water I hit 22 mph. But the 9x6 runs better. I just ran yesterday on the Big O and the level is slightly less than the same time last year, so I could not get into my teal spot- any attempt would grind the prop quickly in the sand/marl. I will have to be content with an area a half mile farther- it is too shallow even to pole the boat in. At times like these I wish I had an airboat- but otherwise very happy with the longtail.
