I have been informed by the FWC that the paperwork has been signed in Tallahassee and the WCAs 2 and 3 will be open next Sat. for the opening of duck season....duck hunting only!!!! NO ENTRY BEFORE THEN...NO SCOUTING.
Thanks to the FWC staff for going the extra mile to get the marshes open for us....
A nice email or letter to Chuck Collins and his staff is appropriate.

You were allowed one mile off the main canal....anything beyond that and you were subject to a ticket.....Did you not notice the signs at the ramps....they could have been blown down...All deer hunting etc was canceled.

are you talking about WCA 2A in Palm Beach and Broward county......If that is the case...there is not a deer heard out there and there has not be one for years

Nobody said anything about deer. The discussion is about the opening of the WCA's. Either they are open or they are closed. As Newton said they will be open as of 11/19 for waterfowl hunters only. I would suggest to anyone that is going into that area that they read the closure order on the FWC web page. It was signed on July 18, 2005 and it gives you a good idea on what is/isn't allowed until it is partially lifted for us on 11/19. Remember folks this is not a general opening. This is a partial opening for ducksters only and it came about through "our" work along with the FWC.

WCA 2A has not been closed at all....We have been other there all summer either just riding or staying at the camp.....SFWMD has been out there riding around as well as WFC and tons of other people and there are no posted closing signs....The reason WCA 3 was closed is because the high water that is pushing deer to tree islands and leves...They closed area 3 so airboats and fishermen dont but added stress on the deer......It will reopen for duck hunting and duck hunting only....there was an article on it in the paper Friday in the paper

The part of Water Conservation Area 2, which is on the east side of U.S. 27, running from the east-west airboat trail south of Loxahatchee NWR to Sawgrass Recreation Park has been open the whole time. WCA 3 is west of U.S. 27. Both areas will be open for duck season.

I try not to disagree with the FWC on regulations....the notice on the opening as sent by the FWC's Michael Anderson states very plainly the EWMA is closed and will be opened only for duck hunting next Sat. The EWMA as stated in Mikes notice includes "WCA 2 and WCA 3".
Not saying the guys might have been cutting slack on enforcement, but those are the regs., and except for duck hunting the EWMA is closed. There is a buffer zone of one mile off the canals according to the original closure announcement.
