After at least two clutches of wood ducks this spring they all left to molt. Last week I saw a pair of woodies in my cow pond - they sure were ugly! Never came back.

Three nights ago I saw a pair of ducks under one of my wood duck boxes. When I got closer I noticed those bright bills and feet! Next thing, one went into the box and one stood guard on the roof. Double-duty nesting box? I hope so! Do these guys nest this late in the year?

A day before New Year's we shot a pile of these just west of STA #1. They were really good eating! Even dumber and easier to decoy than a canvasback. Threw out half a bucket of yellow decoy tonight. These blackbellies will never leave.

Anyone know anything about their nesting behavior??

Rich they will nest multiple times a year. When I had the okeechobee lease we had them in almost every stage from black and yellow chicks on up to full adults during hunting season.

Whistlers are pressure breaders I think that is the correct term for it. They will nest as many times as they need to bring the population back up before they will quit. They will have up to 3 clutches a year.
