Do you think a longtail would work on this hull. It's about a 11 feet long glass barnegat bay sneakbox.

If you try one out on the boat let me know, I've been thinking the same. I have a sneak boat with a displacement hull. Or if anyone has info it would be appreciated....Hootie

Exactly... If you want to get through the muck, weeds, ect. It will work fine. Had a similar set up on the 13 fowler... I got 6, that'ds 6 MPH. I got through ev ererything everyone else did but I had to leave an hour earlier...

Trust me on this, if you get it go with one of Lamar's short shafts he is selling...I think it's a 6 hp and you get like 21 mph...crazy really.

Thanks for the replies. Just thinking about it. would only be looking to get through the weeds and real shallow stuff, not looking to jump levees or anything.

No it doesn't but here is the link, I am a dealer for Copper head motors as well. It is a short shaft mud motor that does pretty well. Here is the link to the webpage. They strongly built and light weight. Great little alternatives to the 6hp Longtail.

On Duckboats.net there is a guy in Maryland selling the prettiest cork decoys you ever saw! They are laid out on a boat very similar to yours! He has a mud motor on it - looks like a single cylinder. Look it up. Maybe get Hootie to e-mail him for info on how his boat performs.

I just e-mailed David from duckboat.net. He has a 6.5 longtail and gets about 7mph on a displacement hull. Said he has never got stuck.

My sneakbox has a planing hull, it's a Higbee all glass boat.it will do twenty mph with a tohatsu 9.8 four stroke on gps. I have run it with a two stroke 15 hp and I think I had to get at least thirty mph out of it. I had a box built by Bob Fricke and that was a displacement hull (jersey white cedar glassed over). I loved that box but it was very slow but also very safe, I had that boat out in 4 ft seas without a worry.

The Fricke's box.

Some more pics, the last pic is a Alviso scull boat that I used to have. Unfortunately I could not bring all my boats when I moved down here.

Hey Chuck great looking boats, saw the top of your plate where did you hunt in NJ. Shooting brant down here could be a tough one. I hunt Lake O with a sneak boat,(displacement hull) it's alot of fun. I'm just about ready to try one of those copperheads on my boat and see if I like it...

I hunted a lot of areas in Jersey both inland and coastal mostly from central to south. Also hunted geese a lot in Pennsylvania too. We did a lot of field hunting for geese up there, jersey and pa.

Just curious. Is this a real mud motor design or one of the weedeater style mud motors. Any pictures?

Thanks,

Sid is so close to where you live, you would be wise to make friends and learn about the motors. Definitely try them on your boat.
