Howdy everybody, I am a new member and am very excited to have an organization that represents us, the Florida Waterfowler. I look forward to gleening from the vast knowledge of the members. I have a question about ringers and any other ducks that frequent northeast and north central florida lakes. I have only hunted woodies in swamp situations and plan on hunting rodman reservoir on opening day. I have done some research and found that rodman has seen it's share of golden days. I live in St. Augustine and Rodman seems a better bet for me than Guana because of the days that are available for me to hunt. My question is will the ringnecks be here this early or is this a spot that is only productive later in the season? Are there any other ducks that are usually at rodman earlier in the season? are there sections of the lake that are more productive than others? Thank you in advance for any responses.
Robert, welcome aboard!!!!!! Alot of good guys and hunters are part of this organization. Great organization for meeting new fellow hunters and looking for advice as you are. I don't know if you'll get many responses on this side of the forum. We usually try to keep these kind of subjects to the "members forum". I'm sure some of the guys here will be more than willing to answer your questions. I live and hunt in South Florida, so I wouldn't be much help to you. Anything south of Lake O, is a different story. :)

Glad to have you aboard Robert. If you recently joined UW it may take a few days for Admin to get you set up for the UW members only forum. I don't know Rodman at all but my advice is scout scout scout. Scouting is a must if you really want to be successful. Good luck!

If you are having a problem getting on the MEMBERS ONLY FORUM it is because your application takes a few days to process....however, if you will email David Lithgow (dlithgow@bellsouth.net) with your name he can usually short circuit the process.

Rodman Resevoir is good but just like Guana, only for the first couple of days that the birds show up. It is pressured hard.
Plus you get guys who drop off hunters from airboats in several different spots around the resevoir and run the birds around the lake in their airboat.
So if you can get there the day the birds show, or maybe the next you can have a good hunt. Also a layout boat is pretty much a must. The birds will gather to feed way off from the shore line and most boat blinds have to high of an outline to hunt effectively there.

whistling wings, are there any other birds there other than divers? are ther any other public places in the area to hunt? I heard that lake george has some ducks. I have a woodie hot spot in St. Aug, but I feel the need to expand my thinking to other birds. thanks for the replies everybody.
