my stud dog broke his bottom canine tooth in half. it doesnt seem to bother him. Is there anything I need to do or to look for? It looks like he did it a few months ago while he was with a pro trainer buddy of mine. thank you for any help on this.

I have to admit that dentistry is not one of strong suits.
I do know that exposure of the root canal can lead to long term chronic infections which can lead to some health problems. A root canal can be done and the tooth capped. Not a single one of my clients has ever opted for that referral (1000 and up). I don't blame them as that is a lot of money to save a tooth. The tooth can also be removed and that is significantly less.
My recommendation to my clients is pretty simple. If the canal is not exposed, just keep an eye on it and remind me to look at it on every visit to make sure it has not changed.
I would recommend that at your dogs next scheduled visit you get your vet to look at it and see what she/he recommends.

Do puppies loose their canines or do they retain them for life. My pup has a tooth that is chiped back badly too. I need help with this question as well. Thank You for an answer in advance. Mike O - Fla Archaics.

A puppy's canines are lost at right at 6 months of age. The puppy tooth is the needle sharp one. When the adult comes in from underneath, it pushes the puppy tooth out and the adult is much more blunted, but much much larger.
A broken puppy tooth that does not underlying damage to the adult tooth, is a self healing problem, just wait til the adult comes in.

Blue,
Put a grill on that dog w/ 24k. Just keep him from smiling in the blind!
