Despite the unsettled weather I went fishing this am....slept in and got to the marsh at about 8.....as I had a different target than bass...I had caught a couple of Mayan Ciclyds on my bass lure at a particular spot on the grass line...took my fly rod with a small yellow jig tipped with a small piece of worm.....bang bang bang all morning with the hand sized hard fighters.....ring aroung the boat a few times....left just in front of a storm....here comes Wilma!....

Great fun on a fly rod, non stop action.

Illegally released aquarium fish. Oscars and some really colorful tank escapees abound in south Florida canals.

A lot like a bream, very colorful agressive and a hard fighter and good to eat....

A hard hitting, good fighting, pretty fish, that's good to eat!!... Sounds like the perfect fishing trip! Do they like dry flies? That to me, is the way to fish. I like fly fishing from a float tube... like to see the action, & when you are in a float tube... it's in your face! :icon_razz

...and you can feel the gators swimming around your legs. :00000039:

The gators die of old age in the Refuge....not a place to wade...I even am careful when I pick up fish or wash my hands.....I've seen big gators just laying on the bottom below my boat looking up at me.....Capt. George and I once had a "double/double" on....each with a bass on which a gator was chomping as we fought a bass/gator combo....

Whoaa :00000039: Sounds like that is NOT the area to float tube!!
Hey, William ask if you have any of the Peacock Bass there?

If any were in the canals it would be at the very northern range of the peacock's habitat. I have never seen one at the LOX. FED. REFUGE and I believe the water gets too cold for them. Ft. Lauderdale is about as far north as they can live. Great fishery Ft. Lauderdale south.

One day I'd love to experience some peacock bass fishin'. Nothin' like a fish that attacks a fast movin' lure during business mans hours. :hello2:
