Well, my son (age 20), managed to get his first buck today!

He and a friend had drawn permits for Buck Lake WMA (archery). After much scouting, they located a good area (oak hammock surrounded by swamp) about a mile and a half off one of the roads. After hunting Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning ... seeing plenty of deer ... just nothing close enough to shoot. :( Sunday afternoon, just before dark, was the magical time. A nice 6 pt. walked up and stood 25 yards away ... almost broadside!

He made an excellent heart/lung shot ... and the deer only went about 25 yards! :icon_salu He did say that it was a h*ll of a drag getting him back to the truck! ;) We didn't weigh the deer ... but it looked like 125-130. :)

We just finished getting everyting cut up and packed in ice for a few days. I'll be taking it to the taxidermist soon. It's a pretty rack ... just no eyeguards.

I'm proud of him! :D
