The SFWMD WRAC will be considering the LAKE OKEECHOBEE COMMITTEE REPORT AND DRAFT GOVERNING BOARD RESOLUTION at a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 9 am to be held at the WPB SFWMD offices on Gun Club Rd. The subject is scheduled for 9:30am so you would be able to leave early in the am. UW-F supports the direction the report is headed (a lower lake in the fall and spring) , we also want more restrictions on vegetation spraying, except cattail.
The USACOE will hear public comments at 7 pm Oct. 11 on a proposal to change the rules governing Lake Okeechobee's water levels. The meeting will be in Clewiston at the John B. Boy Auditorium, 1200 SW C. Owens Ave. (go left off US 27 down to the sugar mill, look left). The proposal is for a lower lake, especially in the early fall and spring. UW-F supports the proposal.
There may be an opportunity during "public comments" to let the CORPS know about opposition to vegetation spraying during spawning season and duck migratory periods.
