Where are you going in Michigan? I grew up on Lake St. Clair and might be able to give you some helpful info.
In fact that is the same weekend that I plan to pick up the layout boat.
Let me know if I can be of some help.

I am going to Ohio in November for a bow hunt for big whitetails on private property during the rut. I am stoked about that trip!!! Fairystorm was supposed to go with me, but he has come down with a bad case of pussitis.
Hopefully he will be cured by the time we are set to go on our spring turkey hunt in Nebraska for Merriams turkeys.

Dan... We'll be going to North Muskegon to hunt with fellow SDH member Jeff Bonin(IcyduckJB) He has come down at Christmas the past two seasons with his family to visit his wifes family who live in Sebastian...we met on the internet and I've taken him five days each year and he is a super guy...The kind of hunting buddy that comes along very rarely! We went to some of my "doublesecret" spots and MURDERED the ducks! He doesn't get much chance at Ringers and teal so he was really jazzed about it.
Well, now we are traveling north and he is lining up some special hunts for us! Gotta love the internet! I've met some super people that I never would have.

Sounds awesome duckman. That's not my area but it is nice country up there - rolling hills, thick woodlands and Lake Michigan is something to see. Do you know if your going to hunt Traverse Bay or inland lakes?
Oh, by the way, I spoke with my sister in southern Mich. today and she said it was 34 degrees this morning - I hope you have a few pairs of long underware for up there. I shoot a Browning Auto-5 and there were days where I remember ice flying off the gun on the first shot of the day - Aaahhhhh, the memories. Thank God I woke-up and began learning to hunt down here so I don't have to freeze my a$$ any more.
Bust a few for me. Good luck !!!!!!

You have never really duck hunted until you have to go out and hour after daybreak and bang every decoy on the side of the boat to break off the ice accumalating in a sheet around the sides.

Newton, Aaron and I got invited to go on this hunt in SE Ohio. It's a bow hunt. Normally I don't go to Ohio, but Aaron does. He has kin up there, and hunts with them some years.

Wow, it sounds like us Florida boys are going to raid Ohio for a little venison this year. I'm taking my son up for gun season in southwest Ohio. All of my in-laws live there and I've got lots of private farm land to hunt. Unfortunately the split in their waterfowl season for the south zone is exactly the two weeks we'll be there:( Good luck to everyone:)

And Mississippi for new-year
Can't wait for the Mississippi trip.
Gotta take the wife to the tropics so she will let me get away to my old timber holes in the coldwater bottoms area
We do have room for one more gun for the Mississippi trip

Just got back from hunting with my son in Michigan as fellow SDH'er Icy duckJB guest. We have hunted together the past two years while he visited with family in my area of florida and had a great time showing him what florida had to offer...Well, Now it was my turn. It was a great trip that I can't thank Jeff enough for. He took time off from his job as a school teacher and we went hard at it for four days. We shot 8 different species of ducks and joey got a nice Canada Goose too. We saw things that I never dreamed of...Swans( they are huge!), Mink, Salmon swimming up the White river, turkey, deer, black squirrels... The tree colors where awesome!! It really is Gods country. His Mom and dad put us up in their lovely camper and his wife was so gracious making us supper after a long day out and about. We saw so much wildlife that it really was mind blowing. We went to a wastewater treatment area that had literally thousands of ducks on it...and Geese..forget about it! They were everywhere....but they are some kind of smart! We hunted lakes and flooded river bottoms and even secluded ponds and flowing creeks....It was truly the trip of a lifetime...Memories for a Dad and his son....Thanks Jeff, I owe you brother.
I had this up on the Refuge and SDH since our site was down when I returned....
