can someone please explain to me the justification of the 10hp limit on most of these WMAs? i understand why they would not want bass boats with 200 mercs tearing everything up, but what would a 25hp limit hurt? this would allow sportsmen (both hunters and fishermen) to get to their spots in a "reasonable" amount of time (under 1-2 hours!) and still protect the habitat and vegetation. not to mention, you cant even compare a mud motor and outboard. my 23hp godev wont go but half the speed of my boat with a 25hp outboard. personally, it just doesnt seem like a needed restriction to me and it severly restricts the number of people who use these areas that ALL of us pay for!

on a related note, i heard last year that UWF was lobbying for a mud motor exemption to this rule. what was the commissions reasoning for not doing it or was this effort never made? thanks for the answers guys!

The reason I have heard from Guana WMA is that it tears up the widgeon grass too much.

But I do not see how a 10 hp vs 25 hp mud motor will make a difference.

It the prop that much bigger???

However, if you ask for bigger mud motors you can bet that they guys with larger outboards are going to want to be allowed to use theirs too.

I just read that Hickory Mound only allows electrics during duck season.
