So I have been running a 20hp outboard on back of my boat thatI duck hunt out of, well lets just say it is in a few peices in the back yard never to be ran again.......So I am now thinking of going to a mud motor my boat is 15' alumacraft rivited that is 44" wide at the bottom my transom height is 16". So I know nothing about mud motors what should I look into?

Thanks

Unless you are ready to drop some serious $$$ You will never have outboard speed( short tail)...but go back thru the classifieds and PM to see if any longtails are still unsold..

OR

Call Lamarr Cox in Melbourne and see what he has used...
same with Fastduck (sid) who is farther north.....and Juan (jeep cj7) who is down south and ask for what they have used.

All are UW-F members who will treat you right!

I successfully ran a 25 GD longtail on a 1544 alumaweld hull for several seasons. It was strictly a two man carrying load, three hunters and gear would make it really plow and slow. That said, you might look at a 23 mini MB shortail, easier to drive and faster. 15' hulls are not ideal for either mud motor design, a 16 to 18' hull is better suited. Duckman Jr. is right on- ideally you could have the dealers mentioned allow you to test drive a motor on your hull to get it right the first time.
