New dog help

I was given a 1yr old black lab female yesterday morning by a family who is losing there home. I would like to train her in to a duck and dove dog but not sure where to start at this age. She was a family dog so she is a little hyper but doesn't bark or chew. Only command she knows is sit. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Get some bumpers and get her interested in retrieving, make it fun for her when doing just that. Work on basic obedience commands sit, stay, down, etc. Waterdog is a good video that can help you through the basic retrieving drills but without an obedient dog, the retrieving part will be much harder.

Absolutely obedience first. This will give you a good foundation for a no-slip retriever. A couple of bumpers a day only at the beginning (jmo).
