Well I've got a little mud on my face. I thought my baby was nearly unbreakable. It's been a workhorse. My first shot on the opener was my last. looks like the action spring broke. New parts on the way from Brownells.

Had the Citori out Sunday. I wish that gun wasn't so purty. It sure shoots straight and it is nice having the IC in the lower and the LM or Mod in the upper.

Don't go back you'll thank yourself the day your glad you didn't have to carry that heavy gun for a mile or the day you figured out you shot half as many shells for the same amount of birds or the day you found all your empties or the day... nevermind you get the picture.

Action spring tube broke off clean at the upper tang on the receiver. I ordered all parts of that assembly (spring/tube/plunger/cap) so we should be good as new. There is a fair amount of gunk in there. I need to remember to pull the stock off after each season and give that a little cleaning and light film of oil. Probably going to screw up the finish when I heat up the tang to release the solder joint. I was planning to have this gun dipped anyway.

Wow, I actually got that sucker put back together. I stripped the A-5 down completely and gave it a good (and much needed) cleaning. I'm glad I did beacuse now that I know how all the pieces go in and out I think I'll strip it after each season. A good amount of gunk can find its way into the trigger group, breach block and action spring area.

I silver soldered a new action spring tube to the top tang. The heat toasted the blueing on the tang so I cold blued that and it came out perfect.

I replaced a couple of the cross pins because they were showing some wear and I replaced the action spring, spring plug and follower that connects to the link. With all new springs the action feels much more crisp.

She's all oiled up in the right spots and ready for the Phase II opener.

I should have taken pics but here is the link to the field service manual which does a good job of explaining the processes.
