There is a long thread over on the Members Only Forum on the results of this weekend....Don't believe many will be posting such info on the Public side for the perusal of the thousands of cyber scouters who visit....note the UW-F Forums are now ranked 19th in the catogory....and that includes a lot of national forums....

Overall the STAs are good as always....many other spots suprisingly bare of ducks and, as usual, a few good holes were found here and there.

We need a good cold spell up north.

Hate to disappoint but, not much sta talk over on the members side. There are some Merritt Island, Lake O and Glades post though...along with painting decoys, sons first bird,an albino BW...etc.

i call BS.......plenty of those STA ducks to shoot. A bunch of us got up early, loaded the boats, drove thru the marsh for 45 minutes, found our pre scouted spots, set up the decoys, hid the boats, and scratched out some birds the hard way. Very rewarding weekend, we even had a first time duck hunter witness a successful hunt, he was only 5 and slugged it out thru the skeeters like the big boys did.

So where's those 15 min limits...I want to hear from you

It took about an 30 minutes.......did not want to shoot any ringers.....whatcha wanna know.

BTW......I went to Lake O to scout for Sunday..........I spent 4 great hours with my son running the marsh in our longtail ( at a leisurely 10 mph).....

When I got back to the ramp I stopped and talked to a number of guys going back out for the afternoon......

Some had a poor morning, some had boat troubles, and some were probably fibbing and going out for a second round.

If I were staying overnight in O town I would have gone out, but once we got home it was hard to head out again on Sunday.

All in all it was a good day, we got our meat early and then took in some nice sights, cruised some nice marsh, and enjoyed ourselves........what else do you wanna know?????

Hey Rich,

Did you get out to Morehaven this weekend? If so, did you have any success? Don't see you posting over here to often.

don't need to know any more, hope you had a good time. I just miss hearing all those limited out reports in 10 minutes on the STA's....for those of you whom slugged it out on a public lake WTG

I should have added ...four limits for us....on an STA....all in the dekes, not another hunting party within a half mile of us.....picked shots...all mine were drakes....only took a full hour because I don't shoot until I can really see, and I usually miss the occasional passing shot I will take when teal flash over the dekes...or I usually forget to "cover" the bird and miss a lot of incoming shots...Like everyone, some good shooting days, some atrocious ones....but always fun.

STA hunting is what you want to make of it....it is nice to really be "in the ducks"...but such a spot away from the amatuers requires a very long paddle and "drag" and is not easy by any means....in fact I sometimes shoot as many ducks at spots not on an STA, although in a longer time period, with only the effort of "motoring" about and setting up and hunting from a boat. A lot less effort than on the STA.

I know there are spots, and when I am by myself I hunt them so as not to be too far away in case of a problem, right next to the levees where some excellent hunting is possible on the STAs....but there is also more chance of being disturbed by others nearby.....just a choice to be made.

I also see a lot of hunters who do poorly on the STAs...large sections of STAs have very few if any ducks and if you do not scout and go into one of those areas you will have a slow hunt. There is no guarantee despite what you often read on the forums.

I heard from my STA Buddies they shot up a Bunch.

I had a great time in the Glades. Could of shot my limit but I wanted my Girl friend to get her first Duck . I Watched . Did shoot a Motled drake with his landing gear down. at the end .she missed the other :duckie:
To me, It's not about getting a Limit ... If I wanted that I would STA it.:booty:

The STAs can be spectacular, as I said above, but I saw two guys check out yesterday morning at STA 5 with NO Ducks....hard to believe when over 50% of the original 40 permits were out before 9:30 with limits!!!

My son shot at a teal in a drove landing in his dekes at STA 1W at 6:50 am last season and it "rained" ducks....he was concerned about how many had fell and went out and picked up five!....He is not a "flock shooter", but they evidently "bunched" when he moved to shoot, which teal will do sometimes. He shot his last bird for a limit wading back to the kayak.

So, there is the good and the not so good on the STAs....but if you are any kind of a duck hunter you will do good and the inexperiened hunter does have a lot better chance of having a "limit" day versus other venues.

I had another "good" day yesterday afternoon at STA 5...My cousin from Memphis was here and I have been trying to show him some Florida duck hunting and get him a Mottled and a Black Belly and/or a Fulvous, he has never had a chance at those in Miss. River and West. TN locales. He got the Mottled and Backbelly....as we had a mixed bag of 10 ducks.

Last year we had a great "Ringer" hunt on LOX and he is coming back in January (for the Winter Hunt in Clewiston as he is a Member) for some more STA and WCA hunting.

I don't understand the want to limit out so quickly. I personally make it a challenge to shoot the birds I want, the way I want them.
But to each his own, as long as you're legal.
