I will not try to cover the total maze here, but have put a long piece on the YAHOO site so folks can see what is involved. In short....we have a document to go to the WRAC that is pro hunting and fishing and asks that the restoration of the everglades consider the impact on these sports. Now we are beginning to work on a consensus for public use of SFWMD lands. I have submitted the following for UW-F: ALL DISTRICT OWNED OR OPERATED PUBLIC LANDS OTHER THAN THOSE OPERATED AS WMAS OR, FOR REASONABLE SAFETY CONCERNS, POSTED AS "NO HUNTING" WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC HUNTER DURING ALL STATE HUNTING SEASONS. DUE TO THE SMALL SIZE OF SOME AREAS AND ADJACENT DEVELOPMENT, FIREARMS WILL BE RESTRICTED TO SHOTGUNS OR MUZZLELOADING RIFLES. REGULAR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AND STATE AND FEDERAL WILDLIFE OFFICERS WILL CONTINUE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROPERTIES.
The next meeting is 4 pm Oct. 15 at the SFWMD offices.
