Someone suggest I post this over here. When I saw my puppy swimming in the reeds outside of the house it got me to wondering.

"This is probably a strange question, but do you worry about your dogs getting amoeba sucked up their noses in the summer resulting in the deadly infection that we hear about from time to time with people swimming in fresh water here in Florida."

Naegleria fowleri is the causative agent and has, to my knowledge, only been reported in humans (and mice experimentally). So unlikely to not possible.

Thank you. Another question. What do you recommend for food and at what age should I switch to adult food? I have the puppy on puppy pro plan now and he is 4.5 months old.

Pro Plan is an excellent food (I carry that one). I switch labs to adult at 1 year of age. Most labs don't need Performance unless they are Field Trialers, the average weekend hunter can do just fine on Regular Adult Maintenance. Some need more calories, so watch the dog. I do carry snacks for them when it is really cold or they will be using a lot of energy. they make energy bars for dogs, but I carry human version so we can share. I'd rather the dog eat the people version than me eat the dog version!
