Lake O Cmte. met today with multiple presentations on a scheme to work with ranchers and groves north of the Lake to store water in shallow "impoundments' that are normally fields, pastures, abandoned groves or natural areas...up to 200,000 acres. This would reduce the need for expensive deep water reserviors....

It would also put a lot of ducks on private land if the water was there, as would be expected, during and for a time after the rainy season....!

The Lake is in great shape and the coming season will be a good one if we do not have a major rain event. The Lake is near the top of the schedule but they are trying not to send too much water into the estuaries....and will not do so unless a storm threatens....

I was able to get another plug in for using the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes as a "natural STA" which does not cost $100 million to build by simply allowing a minimum of 30% SAV, including hydrilla, to remain in the entire system.....

The total amount of Phosporous coming into the Lake from the north is 572 tons a year....a disaster for the Lake and for the Glades.

I was able to tout our URBAN TURF FERTILIZER BAN ON P and how much money the adjustment of inventories in the Retail Stores to lower numbers of bags of P containing fertilizer is saving considering it costs the District $8000 a pound to remove P in a STA considering all costs....

The Lee County representative mentioned they had passed an ordinance banning the use of most fertilizers during the rainy season....

We cannot count on the projects to help for years to come...but Mother Nature has blessed us so far this year on the Lake....

Tommorow is the IMPERILED SPECIES MEETING at the FWC offices tele cast to several statewide locations from Tallahassee....The new expanded definition of TAKE for Threatened Species will be discussed. Open to public....starts at 9 am.
