Someone asked why the dove field and hunting at Frog Pond was ended and at the time I could only reply that it was due to a SFWMD "construction project".
I now have the details....The project is the start of the work to close the C 111 canal. The C 111 canal was constructed to allow barges to an aerospace manufacturing site from Barnes Sound. This was not good for the Glades as it diverted frest water that normally went to Taylor Slough and south into a salt water area that had no such flow previously.
The initial stages of the project include the construction of several large retention ponds in Frog Pond.....thus the closure to access and hunting. There may be a possibility to reopen the area....perhaps a better place?....in the future.
