Well, I am about 1/2 way through FF (have started the transition to CC to Fetch and working on fetching off the ground) and my dog is still wanting to cigar the he!! out of all the bumpers. I tried putting tie wraps on the ends of one last night, then she wanted to grab the throw rope on the end.... Any ideas on how to cure this? :00000011:

Don-maybe backup a step hold bumper out in front of pup. Never experienced this issue before with my pups.

I watched a video on youtube the (Urbanduckman) . The guy on there Irish, would tap the dummy while in the mouth of the dog with his finger trying to get the dog to drop if it had a bad hold and then would get a correction. This seemed to make the dog learn to get a better hold because it knew after every fetch and hold there would be additional test.

these videos of Ruby really helped me , because you get to see the dogs corrections and the entire session not just the how to.

Consider taking the ropes off for now if they are an issue. She gets this from her mother for sure. Zoi doesn't do this often, but occaisionally she will return to me with a bumper this way and she does know better. Repetition has taught her that when I say "fetch it up right" she will actually drop the bumper and pick it up 'accordingly'. This is still a function of 'hold' and repitition should cure it.
When you went through the "hold" phase of your FF'ing did you made it clear to Bristol what "hold" means and what it doesn't mean? I'm sure you did, but she still falls back to her momma's old ways. I would simply let her know that it is unacceptable:
1. Simply tell her no in a calm manner when she does this.
2. Pull bumper back out of her mouth and tell her to hold or fetch(wherever you are at). She should grab/hold it correctly
3. PRAISE PRAISE PRAISE HER!!!!! THEN REPEAT!

This is what I am doing, but she still likes to cigar the bumpers whenever we move the next step.... I just keep repeating the proper hold - hopefully she'll finally get it one of these days.
Oh, and it doesn't matter if I use a bumper with or without the rope.

once FF is totally in place i would knock it out of the mouth and use the ear pinch (or collar if you have CC'd to fetch) to have the dog pick it back up correctly. Also I use the lees pressure method if i'm doing something already loaded with pressure i'll move it to the correct position and tap up under the mouth and command "hold".
It's kinda a never ending thing with my dog.... he's really bad if he's tired or bored. What's wierd is it's never translated to a bad carry on a duck but it really could end up that way so it's best to stop it ASAP if you can

I have transitioned to the collar from the ear pinch and have tried as you stated above (knock it out of her mouth and recommand "fetch"). When I do this, she picks it up correctly....
I think it all comes down to repetition. I can foresee having to keep working on this for weeks.

if it's only weeks your doing really well then!!! I would say months to years is a real possibility. it can kinda come and go i've noticed.
