The FWC Commission will be meeting at Howey in the Hills near Ocala Sept. 9 on hunting subjects.

Very little in the way of waterfowl topics are on the agenda, however, the addition of Full Migratory Bird Seasons on a number of WMAs has been accomplished by UW-F work and should move toward finalization. No opposition is expected.

The controversy over the proposed change in the definition of TAKE is going to need the attention of many parties who would be effected if animals such as the black bear and fox squirrel are put under what are essentially the Federal Rules for Endangered Species instead of the current FWC rules for TAKE which do not have the wide open opportunity to close hunting areas created in the Federal Rules with the use of terms such as "annoy" and "harass" defined very loosely. This is part of a review of the Florida Imperiled Species Regulations UW-F is attending across the state.

For the deer hunters...the progress of the Stakeholder (and FWC Staff version as well) Deer Management Group will be presented...Lots of changes in seasons, Zones and plans for a TAG system involved.

FWC meetings are open to the public and have Public Comment periods. UW-F encourages attendance. Go to: myfwc.com for details.
