I need a conditions report from folks local to Lake Kissimmee or Lake Cypress. SFWMD under permit from DEP is treating both lakes over the next three weeks with Aquathol K.

SFWMD News Release (http://www.sfwmd.gov/newsr/3_newsrel.html#treat_hydr)

Here are maps of the treatment areas:

I want to get local reaction ASAP.
I've got calls in to DEP, FWC and SFWMD right now.

The only good news I can take from the news release is that they are using Aquathol K which is a contact chemical rather than Sonar which treats the entire lake. I'm not happy however with some of the treatment areas. I really need to know how much hydrilla there is on these lakes. The last reports I have had are that there is very little hydrilla to treat.

David, After being in a vehicle for a couple hours with Doug Volotina and Maria and another fellow( name escapes)during the tour of Ft Drum WMA prior to the south RAC meeting I found out that they will probably not use Sonar anymore in treating Hydrilla as over the past decade it has become resistant. I said that we favor mechanical harvest to keep open lanes and a nice mix of open water and topped out duck food. They said that $$$ will be prohibatively high for that and they are sure a new chemicle will come along shortly.

David a buddy of mine just spent a week fishing in the Lake Kissimmee area. I will see him tonight and ask about hydrilla coverage.

Joe do you know if SJRWMD will be treating any of the lakes south of Lake Washington anytime soon?
