I sat in on the virtual workshop on Monday night and it looks like this is geared towards wildlife that is not managed at the present time. Seems like this pertains to non game and fish. I plan on going to the open house meeting in Tampa this Saturday by FWC to learn a bit more about this. I will post my findings. :icon_salu

Thanks for your attending the workshop in your area Duckwacker....several of us attended similar workshops. You will find yourself almost alone as a hunter if it is like the ones here. Those of us who are "consumptive" users made sure we were considered stewards of wildlife as well and conservation minded. Points on the self taxing of our equipment going strictly to improve wildlife and habitat, the funding of major conservation projects by hunting organizations etc, etc. were made. The fact that the white tail deer and wild turkey have been restored to populations above the primitive time by hunter contributions and that all wildlife benefits from the habitat improvements required to do so. In other words don't let the antis "out Bambi you".

Have fun!

No problem, I'm too big to push around :) and too set in my ways to be swayed by bunny hugger drivel. I know the FACTS about who foots the bills for wildlife and who rides our coattails for free. :icon_salu I promise to behave myself :tard:

Well you'll be glad to know no fisticuffs broke out at the open house  Actually, I arrived after lunch and a few folks from the Nature Conservancy (Spelling?) were leaving. As I signed in I noticed that earlier in the day a whole crew from the Defenders of Wildlife had been there. Well I spent about the first hour there talkin' one on one with Thomas who is the top dog of the Florida Wildlife Legacy program. I checked out the list of what is considered the species of concern (almost 1000 listed) which included lesser scaup, Northern pintail and mottled ducks. I added some concerns of mine to their records pertaining to ducks. First is for FWC to open a better line of communications to county and city governments pertaining to the feral mallard problem. I explained to Thomas that in my area 95% of feral mallards are found in county and city owned lakes. These governing bodies needed to be made aware of this problem facing our native mottled ducks so permit holders can be granted access to these areas to harvest this problem duck. Second was the black bellied whistling duck. My comments were to change this duck from the listing of "other" as it is right now (which allows 6 per day to be harvested) to either 1 or 2 per day untill studies can be made to assess populations and how much pressure can be put on them while still allowing them to grow in numbers.
I also read some of the other folks comments  Things like traquilizing and moving deer from overpopulated regions to others without deer. Hmmmn, I'm curious to where these underpopulated areas are? But I really liked the one about using DU monies for duck relocation projects :tard: I wonder if this is like a witness protection plan for waterfowl :dontknow:

Thanks for a very informative post.....I encourage (beg?) those members who make these meetings to do similar posts....so many of our members go to meetings or have important contacts with the agencies and for some reason do not post up the info.....UW-F is an internet entity in many ways....that can be a strength and a weakness.

Our members across the state are interested in what is happening and everyone who puts out the effort to make the meetings should be recognized....do not hide your light under the bushel!...

Also, new members see how to get started and are encourged to began makeing meetings and becoming involved on their own in their area.

Thanks to all who help UW-F and then let us know!
