I have only seen them flying and have never been up close .I am assuming this is a Nighthawk?

Could it be a wip-poor-will or a Chuck-will's-widow?

Kinda looks like them to me, little lighter.

I have no idea Hitch,I got within 5 feet of that bird.
I was wating for it to wake up and fly away,I thought it was dead!!!:)

From Wikipedia
"Their soft plumage is cryptically coloured to resemble bark or leaves. Some species, unusually for birds, perch along a branch, rather than across it. This helps to conceal them during the day. "

I looked at a nighthawk, you're probably right. It's got white on the wing, poor's don't. Super cool photo...and bird.

displaying its classic behaviour of orienting its body parallel to the limbs its roosted on and also in "playing possum" and ignoring close encounters....since they are most active early in the morning and late in the evenings I'm not sure that in the heat of the day there isn't some "torpor" involved that causes that "I'm a bump, go away, you can't see me" behaviour....

Neat picture of a fairly common bird that most people overlook because of those habits....
